Misty Waterflower is once again Ash's first travelling companion and the first member of Ash's harem. She was thrown out by her family for being a Bloodliner. However, as a result of her upbringing, she's more cynical about the world, having grown with almost no friends or affection from her family, leading her to distance herself from them. Nevertheless, she's shown to be equally capable of being nice when treated kindly as she is of being short-tempered when annoyed or angry. At first, she decided to travel with Ash because she saw he was a Bloodliner like her, feeling they could probably understand one another, but the two quickly became friends and sparring partners.

However, the start was this little sphere with a tail that Misty only picked up because it followed her relentlessly. At first, Misty would struggle with the lackluster Poliwag before evolving it and making progress with Poliwhirl, starting the snowball to a powerful Politoad. A mainstay in both the show and games, Politoad has always been a difficult opponent to bring down, but that legacy painfully began with the tiny, somewhat frustrating Poliwag.
